Downtown Herndon, Virginia Kicks off New Year’s Eve at
ArtSpace Herndon
ArtSpace
Herndon will again host a gala on New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31, 2012,
from 7 p.m.to 12:30 a.m.
Historic Herndon’s traditional New Year’s Eve
Celebration features family-friendly activities.
The
family-friendly celebration begins inside the gallery at 7 p.m.
Melanie Stanley will tell her original story
about the last train leaving
Herndon on the W&OD. Local folk singer Bill Davis will tell his
original tall tales
in song. Leslie’s hoops will astound young and old
alike.
The
celebration moves outside at 9 p.m. for the main event–a bonfire with pine cone
colored flames leaping into the
air. At the bonfire, Bill Davis will
“conduct” a People’s Band and Sun Dance Performance will lead the audience in
“First Foote” folk dances. Complimentary hot cocoa and cookies will be
served inside the gallery.
The
celebration moves back into the Post Gallery at 10 p.m. where jazz band leader
Al Robertson will host
Herndon’s very own “Tonight Show,” featuring the best in
local performers. Light refreshments.
The event is
free and open to the public. Due to seating limitations, passes are
required for the 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. post-bonfire celebration. 100 complimentary
passes will be distributed the night of the event. While there is no admission
charge, guests are encouraged to bring cookies and other finger foods as
donations to share with their neighbors. All are invited to bring a
musical instrument to play in the People’s Band.
This New
Year’s Eve Celebration is produced by the Events Committee at ArtSpace Herndon
with the kind sponsorship of local businesses, The Council for the Arts of
Herndon, the Reston Bike Club, and the Town of Herndon Cultivating Community Initiative .
